It’s been some time since the name Terence Crawford started cropping up against Canelo Alvarez. The welterweight champion himself seemed keen on a face-off. But given the sheer weight difference, quite a few fans and pundits appear skeptical of what could otherwise be an exceptional fight. So what’s the recourse to get the dazzling Nebraskan back in the ring?

It’s been nearly seven months since the epic fight with Errol Spence Jr. The clash made Terence Crawford the first two-division undisputed champion among men. Consequently, on account of ceding the IBF title, he became a unified welterweight champion. With the chances of even the Spence Jr. rematch going dim, speculation is rife over his next step. However, fans may now breathe a sigh of relief. A new and promising course of action could be in the offing.

I can tell you Crawford will be here next week,” shared Francisco ‘Paco’ Valcarcel with Kevin Garcia from FightHype. The revelation came when the latter asked the WBO chief about his views on the upcoming clash between WBO light middleweight champion Tim Tszyu and Keith Thurman. The catchweight fight (155 pounds) takes place at the T-Mobile Arena on March 30.

The WBO chief gave his two cents on the exciting clash. However, what sounded more significant was the caution for the winner. Or, more essentially, who he might end up facing during the mandatory challenge. “But the winner of that fight have a tough cookie for for his next mandatory,” he said, dropping the hint about ‘Bud’ Crawford’s visit. Then he added how they planned a special recognition for him and held more discussion over the next fight.

Terence Crawford currently holds the WBO title in the 147-pound division. So, Kevin Garcia asked whether there were any chances of him surrendering the belt to challenge the WBO champion at 154 pounds. However, ‘Paco’ made it clear that he was not in a position to share much detail on that matter.

He then corrected himself. Terence Crawford was visiting this week, not next week. He was coming for the Amanda SerranoNina Meinke title fight on March 2. The felicitation for him will follow the next day. Hence, he told Garcia that the latter might get some answers from the champion himself.

Garcia asked whether they would get any updates on Crawford’s next fight in the near future. The WBO chief replied, “I don’t know what we happen but but but we’ll be soon.” The two caught up during the opening of the new Boxing Bullies gym, the Jake Paul outreach program, in Caroline, Puerto Rico.

If fans are keen on connecting the dots, then they might as well remember Tim Tszyu’s response not so long ago. While speaking with a bunch of reporters at the kickoff presser, the WBO light middleweight champion shared how his and Crawford’s teams were reportedly in discussions for a fight. Nevertheless, it’s too early to speculate until anything concrete comes up.
