Anthony Yarde is the latest name from the light-heavy division to pick up momentum. In developing news, reports of his next fight have emerged, and his opponent? An intimidating, undefeated fighter that could be a fairly difficult fight for him.

Last year, the Essex-based fighter fought twice. For his career’s toughest opponent, he fought the unified champion of the weight class, Artur Beterbiev. While the latter held on to his undefeated status, Yarde lost in an 8th-round technical knockout, marking his career’s third loss. Nine months later, in a Wembley Arena showdown, Yarde redeemed himself by defeating his Portuguese opponent, Jorge Silva, in a second-round stoppage. To continue this narrative in the ring, a new fight for him has emerged, on a very exciting card.

Anthony Yarde to fight on the 10th of February

Boxing insider, iFL TV, on the basis of Boxrec’s estimation, reported that the 32-year-old orthodox fighter will next take his fight against Serbian-fame, Marko Nikolic. As per the X post, Yarde vs. Nikolic will feature on the 10th of February undercard for Hamzah Sheeraz vs. Liam Williams at the Copper Box Arena of London. The event will be telecast on TNT Sports and will be a riveting weekend for British boxing fans.

Nikolic, with a record of 32-0 has fought the likes of Kevin Bertogal and Michael Obin. The 34-year-old fighter is coming off a win over his Serbian counterpart, Darko Stevanovic. Nikolic made a brief visit to notoriety after he defeated Olympic gold medalist Evgeny Tishchenko in 2011, a Zagreb amateur fight via points.

Yarde vs. Nikolic joins other thrilling fights on the already stacked undercard. Commonwealth Silver featherweight champion Masood Abdullah will face off against 2016 Olympian Qais Ashfaq. Other noteworthy names on the card include Pierce O’Leary, Karol Itauma, and Tommy Fletcher. 

 

This fight for Yarde comes at a crucial point. Especially when another notable fighter is also hoping to fight him.

Callum Smith enters the story

The 10th February fight comes in the light of Callum Smith also expressing his wish to fight Yarde. In a conversation with iFL TV, Smith aka ‘Mundo’ noted, “I need the right fight to get me motivated. I’m not retiring. Anthony Yarde is definitely a fight that does motivate me. For the time being, the four belts are going to be tied up.”

Rumors have heated up, suggesting that Smith and Yarde will face off as a part of the anticipated Matchroom vs. Queensbury 5 vs. 5 event in Saudi Arabia. While Smith is a marquee fighter on Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, Yarde comes from the stables of Frank Warren. The date for this entertaining event will possibly be revealed on the 8th of March when Francis Ngannou fights Anthony Joshua in another huge Saudi event.
