In an interview with FightHype, Hopkins talked about the upcoming matchup between Charlo and Alvarez. He shed some light on why the Charlo twins are not easy opponents for anybody. Moreover, he revealed what makes them “dangerous” for anyone in the sport.
He said, “They’re the most dangerous opponents for anybody stepping in the ring, including Canelo Alvarez.” Further talking about the reason which makes them dangerous, he added, “I just see the time we are in right now. That athlete and the IQ of a few guys, that’s gonna stand out when they’re in big matches.” It seems like the boxing acumen and inside-the-ring IQ of the Charlo twins have made an impression on the former world champion.
Hopkins also talked about the magnitude of this fight, comparing it to Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford. He said, “This definitely is one of the premiers on the highest level for which to come next.” According to Hopkins, this fight is as big as the Spence Jr. and Crawford clash.

Talking about the setback Covid-19 had on the sport, the 58-year-old said, “Covid had things backed up. Everybody’s chopping at the bit.” But, as per Hopkins, the fighters are “pushing the narrative” and making big fights happen in 2023.
