Anthony Joshua of Great Britain is set to take on former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in a heavyweight matchup scheduled for March 8 in Saudi Arabia. Despite initially characterizing the potential bout as a “gimmick fight,” the 34-year-old Joshua, is now gearing up for the contest. The 37-year-old Ngannou entered professional boxing in October, delivering a knockdown to Tyson Fury but ultimately losing a closely contested decision. Now Tyson Fury’s uncle has come to acknowledge the newcomer’s power.

Peter Fury, the former boxing coach and heavyweight Hughie Fury’s father, in an interview with IFL TV, spoke about Ngannou and the opinion he holds of the fighter. Does he think Ngannou has a chance against Joshua?

Peter Fury makes his pick between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou

In the interview, Peter Fury was asked if Ngannou stood a chance against Joshua. He said, “Everybody’s got a shot, and he’s getting in the ring. I wish the fella all the best because he seems a very nice guy, come from very humble beginnings, doesn’t he? So for me to sit here and discredit him, but in boxing terms shouldn’t go anywhere.”

He commended Ngannou further, saying, “You know his second pro fight, a fighter that’s been out of MMA for two years, you know that’d be bad enough to have ring rust.” He then went on to mention how Mike Tyson’s tutelage has helped Ngannou get better.

However, through all this, Peter Fury still believes that AJ has the upper hand going into the fight. “You know, the guy looks like a decent fighter; he is a big strong heavyweight but yeah I don’t think… I can’t, I can only see one winner,” confessed the former trainer.

However, another boxing entity had something else to add. A former champion warned Joshua not to underestimate Ngannou. Let us see what he had to say.
