It’s been two years since one of boxing’s greatest fighters hung up the gloves. However, Manny Pacquiao, who turns 45 in December, has always alluded to a return, one way or the other. Like his big-time rival Floyd Mayweather Jr., he fought an exhibition bout last year. Now, fans hear that the mighty ‘PacMan’ wants to try his hand at the coveted Olympic medal. And it was enough to cause a commotion among the die-hards. Many appreciate the effort, but for quite a few, the boat has already sailed for the living legend.
talkSPORT’s Michael Benson shared that Pacquiao plans to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics. He hopes to finally wind up his boxing career by winning a gold medal for the Philippines. The message has his statement to @rapplerdotcom: “I’m excited about it… My heart and desire is to claim a gold medal in the Olympics.”

An Olympic Dream for Manny Pacquiao sparks a debate
For the following user, Manny Pacquiao’s attempt at the Olympics stands better than Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s recent exhibition matches against boxers whom nobody knows.
Better than Floyd clout chasing fights with nobodies. At least this is meaningful.

A multi-division world champion participating in the Olympics seems distorted to the following fan: He remains doubtful whether other disciplines entertain such stark dissimilarities in the levels of competition.
Seems a lil unfair to have a multi division world boxing champ competing in Olympics, not sure other sports would have such a huge disparity in competitive levels

But this user seems sure Pacquiao will come out early from the Olympics, losing out to an unknown boxer. He posited that Olympic comebacks by former professional athletes are seldom successful.
His going to exit the comp early to a random. Ex pros never do great when returning for Olympics

As much as it would be an incredible feat to achieve, this fan highlighting Manny Pacquiao’s limited amateur exposure said that he had faced only one Cuban and one Southpaw. In all probability, he might be taken up to the task.
That would be a crazy feat, but Pacquiao has little amateur boxing experience and only ever fought one Cuban and one southpaw in his life. He will be schooled.

However, for the following user, it’s a laudable step since an Olympic gold medal will add another feather to his cap in addition to his multi-division championship wins. His legacy would surge ahead of Mayweather Jr.’s.
Puts him over Floyd… more division titles in different weights and a Gold medal at 45 ?

The Olympics prohibited the participation of professional boxers until the rules were overturned in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro edition. Italian Carmine Tommasone thus became the first pro boxer to compete. But the change hasn’t had the best of results. An amateur fighter defeated IBF Flyweight Amnat Ruenroeng from Thailand in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. But four years later, Bakhodir Jalolov, who turned to professional boxing in 2018, won a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
