Miyo Yoshida dared to face Ebanie Bridges as a last-minute replacement for Avril Mathie. At this, while many expected Bridges, 37, to retain her IBF Bantamweight title given she had long been preparing for the fight, Yoshida, 35, a single mother disappointed her Australian opponent in the ring.

After battling for 10 two-minute rounds, the Japanese boxer won the fight against Ebanie as all three judges scored the bout in her favor. In the wake of this incident, while Yoshida celebrates her latest victory with her young daughter, Mina, here is all you need to know about the champion’s impressive journey.

Miyo Yoshida began professional boxing in 2014 at 26 when she faced Ayaka Sato in Flyweight and won the contest via a majority decision. Following this debut, Yoshida won three fights in a row until Yuki Koseki defeated her in 2016. However, with an indomitable spirit, Yoshida continued her run and won back-to-back fights to win the Japan Boxing Commission Japanese Bantam title against Tomomi Takano in 2017.

A year later, with her unparalleled discipline and devotion to the sport, she became the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation Bantamweight champion in the sport. However, her biggest victory arrived when she defeated Casey Croft in 2019 to win the vacant WBO World Super Flyweight title in boxing. Although Tomoko Okuda later took possession of the WBO title, in their rematch, Miyo regained the lost title with a stunning victory. And today, a role model for boxers in Japan, Miyo Yoshida just became the IBF World Bantamweight champion by dethroning Ebanie Bridges with her impressive boxing.
