Who is the best heavyweight fighter? Many have pondered about the subject and will soon find out the answer. However, Argon Smakici, a Croatian heavyweight who has worked with both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, reveals who is harder to spar with. 

Earlier this week, news emerged that the undisputed February 17 clash between ‘The Gypsy King’ and Oleksandr Usyk has been pushed to May 18. The main reason was Fury sustained a cut above his eye while sparring with Smakici. It required several stitches, and a picture of the same has been shared on social media. So, to speak about the incident, Smakici appeared in an interview with iFL TV today and indulged on why Joshua was harder to spar with than Fury!

Speaking to the Croatian heavyweight, the reporter pressed him about sparring both fighters and urged him to reveal the more difficult opponent. Analyzing both fighters, Smakici said, “Joshua is a really different guy between the second fight [with] Usyk and this fight with Otto Wallin.” He further added what it was like sparring with Anthony Joshua!

“You cannot make a mistake if you [make] one mistake, your head is gone,” said Smakici. When probed about giving a more precise answer, Smakici stated, “It’s more risky, you know. You don’t know if you want if you [make] mistake your head [is going to] fall out.” As for Fury, Smakici said, “With Fury, you can [make] a mistake – you will get punched or embarrassed.” On a separate note, after sustaining the cut and postponement of the undisputed clash, Fury expressed his disappointment in a statement.

Tyson Fury promises to “work diligently”

Following the incident, the Saudis and Tyson Fury released a statement regarding the postponed fight. It’s also worth mentioning that Turki Alalshikh has revealed that if any fighter pulls out of the undisputed clash, a $10 million penalty will be levied on them. However, in the statement, Fury expressed his thoughts about the decision to postpone the fight.

“I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition,” said Fury. “I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event, and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed,” he continued. Moreover, he apologized to his team, Usyk’s team, and everyone involved in making the mega event happen.

While fans have to wait till May 18 to find out who will become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999, Smakici has revealed who would have the upper hand between Fury and Joshua. And since Usyk defeated Joshau, it indicates who the new undisputed king could be.
