Last week, Shakur Stevenson reportedly hinted at his willingness to step in place of Ryan Garcia. The three-division champion’s announcement followed Garcia’s bizarre behavior, posting incoherent messages and posts on social media. As the days passed, concerns over his mental health became grave. Understandably, it led to a few casting doubts over the fate of the April 20 fight with Devin Haney.
As most fans are aware, Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney seriously mulled over a fight last year. But the former rejected the 25% share split offered by Team Haney, eventually resulting in the match never taking off. Now that he expressed an interest in substituting Ryan Garcia, a video of Bill Haney berating him for his initial decline seems to have caught Shakur Stevenson’s attention.

“You know what I’am sayin’, coz I sent some money over there to you, ni**a. I mean, did you have the problem with the money that I sent?” said Bill Haney on ‘H Money Boxing’. The footage had Devin Haney’s father and a few others seemingly discussing Shakur Stevenson’s rejection of the fight offer. @emssniperjay shared it on X early today. The post read, “@ShakurStevenson, you gotta come back on h money and shut all that sh*t down like you did before, apparently.“

Bill Haney continued, “Coz you ain’t got that money since then, ni**a. You know what I’am saying. You ain’t got that money since then, ni**a…had no game nowhere but to where place I was going to give it you, ni**a.” So when asked for the details about the money, Devin Haney’s father replied, “Ni**a, you know what the money that’s ni**a I offered him? Ni**a, when it came you you all, he wouldn’t negotiate ni**a.”
Then, probably chiding Stevenson for the Edwin De Los Santos fight, he said, “Yeah, then he had that bum-a** motherf**king fight he had ni**a.” The Newark, New Jersey-born southpaw wasted no time in posting a riposte.
Shakur Stevenson: Gloves on Standby
He began with a quote supposedly from Bill Haney. It received wide circulation as a result of an expose. In it, Haney Senior appears to be talking about a potential fight between his son and Shakur Stevenson. He reportedly said, “If you got off any with Kur, it was a plus.. if you just had a good day, it was a plus.. all the way up until now! — If it’s too hot at 30, we already ready to go to 40, bruh.”

The three-division champion began, “If it get too hot at 35, we already ready to go to 40 bruvva.” He clarified how he has always been straightforward with his demands. He said, “Old head, my pockets been straight for years. Ask OG J Prince; I’m in my own lane.” But he also indicated that he remains reachable in case Ryan Garcia fails to show up. “Hit me whenever y’all serious and ready to stop playing Circus Circus wit Ryan. I’m here, @BillHaney77.“

The intriguing sequence of the latest conversation follows Stevenson’s shocking announcement of retiring from boxing in January. But later, perhaps in a U-turn, he announced he was getting back in the ring by June. Last year, he fought the Dominican De Los Santos for the lightweight title vacated by Devin Haney.
