Anthony Joshua has faced his opponents in a spectacular back-to-back showdown. After he lost two consecutive bouts against Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua knew he needed to make a statement with his next comeback fight. That’s what he did. He defeated Jermaine Franklin by a unanimous decision, and then later in his next contest, he knocked out Robert Helenius in the 7th round. Now, amid the rumors of a potential fight against Deontay Wilder, Joshua has indulged himself in a new journey of self-discovery.

He’s taken a 4-day time off to shut himself down in a darkness-retreat room. He paid around £2000 to spend some time without any internet, devices and people. It was just him and his mind all alone in a room, to get a bit closer to himself as a human being. He even shared that he expected himself to be a different person after this. Now, the 4 days are over, and he’s shared some pictures of the location where he did this.

This retreat started on October 16, 2023, and ended on October 20th. This technique of getting more clarity about oneself was popularized by the current New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers earlier this year. Following his footsteps, Joshua did the same ahead of his fight against Deontay Wilder sometime in December this year.

He shared his experience on Instagram with three pictures and a four-word message in the caption. In the first picture, he can be seen sitting in front of the dark room, with a campfire lit beside him. The next one is also in a similar background, but Joshua is seen swallowing something down from a steel cup. In the third picture, he’s shirtless, sitting on a stone across what seems like a pond. Joshua seems happy in all of them.

In the caption, he wrote, “Unplugged from the matrix.” Not only this, he took his fans to his journey a bit closer on a different social media platform. So, he shared multiple videos of his expedition to Snapchat.

Before going inside the room, he made some videos at the Sky Cave Dark Retreat, which is situated in Southern Oregon near Klamath Falls. He talked about how he’s questioned himself for doing such a thing, but he stated his belief that “this is where lions are made.” This was a way for Joshua to try to keep a minimalist approach to life.

He said, “I just need myself.” In the room, he would not have any human contact, even his food would be slid down the entrance without him seeing the face of the delivery person. He said, “Life is all about experiences. I want to have more character and go through more experiences.” He also added, “If I go for a walk in the woods, enjoy the scenery, the birds chirping, I’m going for peace. In this, though, it’s just me and my mind.

He posted these videos on Snapchat after he was done completing the little assignment he gave to himself. These things must have given him a sense of achievement that is needed for every human being on this planet. What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comments section.
