“Real Life GTA Character”: Teofimo Lopez Reacts as Conor McGregor Makes Big Move Towards Ireland Politics Following Dublin Riots

Teofimo Lopez and Conor McGregor have been members of the Mutual Admiration Club for a long time. Soon after the former became the WBO and Ring welterweight champion in June, the former UFC lightweight champion congratulated him, calling his performance ‘legendary.’ The Brooklynite in turn offered to train the ‘Notorious’ as he resumed training after recovering from the injury he suffered during the trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier two years ago.

While he prepares himself for a tentative return to the octagon by the early months of next year, the political landscape in his home country seems to have changed Conor McGregor’s mind to try a hand at an altogether different thing. After the recent incident of Dublin stabbings and the following riots, the UFC legend has been giving hints of making a move into politics. Early today, through his X/Twitter handle, McGregor made his stand a bit more clear. Teofimo Lopez didn’t waste time weighing up the latest twist.

Tagging the ‘Notorious’  and Rockstar Games, the former unified lightweight champion tweeted, “Real life GTA character.” To suit his feelings, an emoticon of a pinched finger was added. McGregor had earlier tweeted, “Ireland, your President.” The post carried a picture of him suitably attired in a white suit.

Per the several accounts reported across the media, a knife attack that wounded children near a school at Parnell Square East in Dublin sparked off a violent outbreak. In a number of posts on X/Twitter, Conor McGregor joined many concerned citizens who had voiced their outrage at the tragic incident. Probably, that could have precipitated speculation and conversation regarding McGregor’s potential political involvement.

After he defeated Josh Taylor on June 10, Teofimo Lopez reportedly chilled out to celebrate his victory. It didn’t take much time before Conor McGregor got hold of a photograph. It showed ‘The Takeover’ holding the ‘Forged Irish Stout.’

Tagging Teofimo Lopez on Instagram, McGregor wrote, “Legendary! Congrats on an amazing performance.” The Brooklyn-born, 26-year-old boxer, soon after losing his unified title to George Kambosos Jr., moved to the light welterweight division. Before taking on Josh Taylor, he had defeated Pedro Campa and Sandor Martin. But it was the way he overwhelmed the previously unbeaten and formerly undisputed champion that made him the talk of the town. Lopez has yet to return to the ring after the Madison Square Garden fight. But the word on the street is that he’ll be back in the early months of next year.
