Alfa Romeo: 2021 Latest News, Results, Drivers, and Car Updates

Although the Italian team joined F1 in 2019, they have a rich history in the sport. The team raced in the inaugural season of Formula One. That year, they won at the hands of Guiseppe Farina.

However, they stuck around only till 1951 before they left the sport as a manufacturer. The Italian marquee returned in 1979 and raced until 1985, though they did not meet the same amount of success.

The 2019 season was the third time that the Alfa Romeo name returned to Formula One.

Alfa Romeo entered the 2020 season with an unchanged driver lineup. In January 2020, the team announced that they would enter a title sponsorship arrangement with Polish oil company PKN Orlen and that Robert Kubica would join as a reserve driver.

Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi currently drive for the Hinwil-based outfit.

On-track Achievements

Having had the privilege of competing in the first-ever Formula One season, Alfa Romeo were one of the teams to beat. They even racked up 10 wins, with one being shared by Luigi Fagioli and Juan Manuel Fangio.

To date, Fangio's win in Spain in 1951 remains the team's last win. Meanwhile, Ricardo Patrese scored the team's last podium in 1984. Since its return once again, the team's best position was 4th and 5th in Brazil 2019.

Unfortunately, the team have dropped down the order this season by virtue of Ferrari's engine woes. So far, the Swiss-based outfit have scored mere eight points in the 2020 season.

Alfa Romeo's Sponsors

Alfa Romeo's title sponsor is PKN Orlen, who recently signed on after leaving Williams F1. Other partners include Carrera, Richard Mille, Hewlett Packard, Mitsubishi, Pirelli, and many more.

The Alfa Romeo F1 team is owned by Sauber Motorsport AG, which in turn is owned by Longbow Finance, a Swiss investment firm.
