British tennis star Johanna Konta had a great run in the women’s game. The former World No. 4 is one of the most influential British athletes of recent generations. Sadly, Konta called it a day and has chosen to retire as a professional tennis player from the game.
She announced the development through her social media handles. The devastating news doesn’t entirely come as a surprise as she recently talked about a complication with heart palpitations which she had been suffering from.

She penned down an emotional message on the amazing roller coaster of a career she has had. Konta stated, “Grateful. This is the word that I’ve probably been used to the most during my career, and is the word that I feel explains it best at the end. My playing career has come to an end, and I am so incredibly grateful for the career that it turned out to be.”

Many players and people in the tennis fraternity have poured in their messages for the former player on her illustrious career. Kim Clijsters, the former World No.1 in singles and doubles, stated, “Congrats on a great career and the way you carried yourself through it! Happy I got to play you. Enjoy everything that comes next.” The two iconic athletes faced off in 2020, at the Monterrey Open where Konta won in straight sets.

Konta achieved a career highest ranking as the World No. 4 player. She has been a semifinalist at the Australian Open, the French Open, and the Wimbledon Championships. She has won four singles titles in her WTA career. Now that she has chosen to retire from the game, we wish her all the best in all her future endeavors.
