Activision recently announced the numbers behind the success of Call of Duty Modern Warfare. The game has garnered the highest number of unique players than any other CoD titles this long after release. A telling contributor towards this has been the COVID-19 pandemic. Forced to stay at home during the global lockdown, people have turned to the game for entertainment. However, Activision Blizzard is determined to help eradicate the virus as they know this is no way for humanity to keep living.

Call of Duty titles always do well in the market. They are a staple for many gamers in the US as well as across the globe. However, Activision was not expecting their latest entry in the franchise to do so well. While Warzone’s introduction helped as well, the fact that daily routines are currently not valid has compelled people to take up gaming.

In an interview with Business Insider, Activision Blizzard CEO, Bobby Kotick addressed exactly that.

Naturally, given how recognizable it is, Call of Duty Modern Warfare was one of the first games people turned to. While the publishers are glad for it, they also agree “there’s no winning in an environment like this.

Kotick revealed he was spending most of his time on employee health. Working remotely is no easy feat for the developers. Understandably, mental stress is a menace for Activision’s employees in such a situation.

However, they’re already working on something to help in the fight against COVID-19. No, they haven’t started a relief fund or an awareness campaign. The answer is much more surprising; they’re funding trials for a vaccine!

“We’re funding trials right now on blood serology tests. We’re funding a clinical trial on an antiviral drug that was used in Japan.”

“If you were to ask me a year ago would we be funding a clinical trial on a drug? I wouldn’t even know how I would’ve answered that question.”

Nobody in their right mind would have guessed Activision would be investing in developing a vaccine of all things. However, that is what the COVID-19 pandemic has brought us to. All things considered, we should be glad that a corporation like Activision retains that humane element. They could’ve easily been satisfied with their own success in these times of crisis after all.

Perhaps it’s time we all cut them some slack for the numerous issues bugging us in Modern Warfare and Warzone.
