Only a handful of topics are as prominent as skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) in the gaming community right now. Fans felt that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was a massive letdown because of the SBMM system in it. Sadly, their concerns are far from over as Treyarch has installed the same matchmaking system in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

A lot of pros and players, in general, took to Twitter to express their dismay. Chicago Huntsmen SMG and Call of Duty veteran Seth ‘Scump’ Abner said that SBMM was “nuts”. Nadeshot, the CEO of 100 Thieves and former CoD pro, too expressed his disappointment with the same.

Call of Duty: SBMM is causing havoc in the gaming community

Professional players are of the view that SBMM ruins gameplay and also hampers the process of content creation. SBMM puts the players in the multiplayer lobby against better or equally-skilled players.

A player’s results from previous multiplayer matches play a big role in this matchmaking system. Many argue that it also takes away the fun element in pub matches as players are forced to grind and protect their level.

Responding to this problem, a lot of players took to Twitter, explaining their concerns on the same.

Nadeshot also commented against the matchmaking system and corroborated the sentiments of players around the world. Players are of the view that SBMM should only be present in ranked matches, allowing casual matches to be more fun and interesting.

Once again, SBMM promises to be a more controversial topic than ever. Fans had long hoped that Treyarch would do away with it, especially as the launch of the new title comes closer. From the looks of it, though, Treyarch has its own rationale behind the system.

While this could still change if Treyarch listen to the community’s feedback and make some adjustments to the system. However, that is a stretch and we don’t know what will happen next. With how things are right now, players will have to accept the system and carry on.
