Just as every year brings with it all four seasons and also your birthday, Activision delivers a Call of Duty title. At least they have done so since 2005. However, this year is something of an anomaly due to the vicious COVID-19 pandemic. Daily routines, schedules, social gatherings, sporting events have all been disrupted, and so has the work of the developers in the gaming industry. It wouldn’t really shock anyone if publishers delayed the release of their games this year, given the circumstances. Having to work remotely was never going to be an easy task for game developers. Thankfully, not many have changed their schedules much.

Call of Duty 2020 Entry on Track

A big-budget game, especially AAA games require an immense amount of teamwork and collaborative effort on the developers’ part. Rumors suggesting Activision were going to delay the new Call of Duty 2020 title had gathered steam even before they were forced to work remotely. Fortunately, these rumors have now been debunked.

During Activision’s Q1 2020 earnings call, Daniel Alegre, President and Chief Operating Officer of Activision, delivered some fantastic news.

“The digital nature of our content means our creative talent can continue to work on our product pipeline from home. Although the shift to remote working does have complexity and challenges in some areas of the game development process, we are implementing mitigation measures to each and to address each of these areas. Importantly, based on the work to date, we still expect to deliver a robust slate of content over the remainder of the year. This includes the next premium release of Call of Duty.”

The year would not be complete without a new Call of Duty title to entertain us. We surely need to appreciate the developers at Activision (or rather Treyarch) for pulling all stops.

Whatever the new title may be, fans will be glad to know they will get their hands on it in 2020. While each year Activision makes an announcement by the end of May, we may have to wait longer this time.

Until then, we’re glad to have Modern Warfare and Warzone to keep us company.
