NASCAR has always been a sport that strives towards improvement. Every year, the organizers try and bring in measures that will make the sport better for the drivers and the fans. However, there have been times when they have failed to do so and have been subjected to severe backlash. The latest person to go on a tirade against NASCAR was the man who won the pole position on Saturday in Texas, Bubba Wallace.
Wallace took a lot of people by surprise when he put in the fastest lap in qualifying. It was a much-needed result for the 23XI Racing driver, who was hoping that he could turn it into a win. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be as he could only finish in P3 after he was passed for the lead with just five laps to go by William Byron and Ross Chastain later on.

The first round of 12 race at the Texas Motor Speedway proved to be a tough place for a lot of the Next Gen cars to race around. Accidents and mechanical failures were common in the event as a total of 10 drivers failed to finish the race. Out of these DNFs were a couple of playoff drivers, Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch.
Both Larson and Busch were considered to be title contenders when the playoffs began and seeing them both fail to even finish a race in such a crucial stage of the season was unsatisfactory for a lot of fans and experts.
But it’s not just them. It seemed like almost everyone on the track was facing some sort of an issue with the car, and Bubba Wallace sort of predicted that it would happen after he won pole position. The 23XI Racing driver said that the Next Gen car felt very difficult to drive and a lot of his fellow drivers figured that out the hard way.
“This Next Gen car is so hard to drive, and you’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. You sail it off in the corner anywhere too hard, then you get loose. You push the limits of the tire, so I’m going to underdrive that corner,” Wallace said.
“Same results happen, because you didn’t get your diffuser down. We are talking thousandths of an inch, that’s what makes the difference between the best and just the okays, so trying to live in that best realm,” he added.
One of the playoff drivers who failed to finish the race at Texas was the Darlington winner Kyle Larson. But it was not just the car. Before the Hendrick Motorsports man crashed out, he was being put under huge pressure by Wallace himself.

With just 20 laps to go till the checkered flag, Kyle Larson was in the lead of the race ahead of Bubba Wallace just as the race restarted from a caution. As the green flag fell, people expected the HMS car to easily clear the 23XI car, but Bubba had other plans.
Thanks to a little push from behind by Chase Briscoe, Bubba found himself door-to-door with Larson. Wallace did everything he could to keep the pace with his nemesis and his efforts paid off when Larson lost control of his car at the end of the lap and crashed into the barriers, ending his race.
The HMS man was disappointed but calm after the event, as he praised Wallace for keeping up with him and reflected on his mistake. But he did say that he was happy for his race winner teammate William Byron and Hendrick Motorsports for taking their 300th Cup race win.
“Pretty bummed, but happy for William. Happy for Mr. H. 300 Cup Series wins is incredible. Great night overall for our organization and congrats to William and congrats to my team too,” the #5 driver said.
