Call of Duty Mobile gives away a lot of free stuff, and that is one reason why the game is so popular. Free to play players must love it when the game gives away cool epic skins of various weapons for free. But that weapon will only deliver if it has the best gunsmith build. And there lies the catch!

Since Season 9 of CODM brought the gunsmith into the game, the old way of upgrading weapons is over. Previously, players needed XP cards to update weapons to their maximum level. These XP cards were of three types: blue, green and purple. Two of them provided low weapon XP, and the purple cards were the most powerful ones of the lot.

After the update, CODM removed the blue and green cards, leaving only the purple ones. Next, they increased the number of attachment options for each weapon. Most weapons now upgrade up to level 50 or even more.

To upgrade weapons, players need to use the XP cards available in the inventory. The other way is to grind out each level. No brownie points for guessing how painstaking that can be. Imagine playing over a hundred matches with a weapon just to acquire attachments that actually make it worthy of use. This nullifies the entire idea of using an excellent weapon.

Unfortunately, by increasing the maximum level of each weapon by double or more, CODM makes it impossible for a player to acquire as many XP cards required to upgrade over one weapon at a time. Previously, players would receive XP cards by just playing matches. Now, the only way to regularly get cards is from friends and daily missions, which is minimal. Therefore, no player can acquire enough cards to upgrade multiple weapons at the same time.

The new system in Call of Duty Mobile makes the game unplayable for free-to-play players

This brings us to the only way you can upgrade weapons fastest, and this is CODM’s favorite: buy them from the shop. Granted, they don’t seem to carry a heavy price tag but take a good look at the meta shift every other month and your 10 loadouts. CODM makes it impossible for a player to stick to one weapon for very long.

While it is an effective way to make players invest more money, it makes the game tedious and takes away the fun from strictly free-to-play users.

Here’s hoping they will listen to the community that contributes to the actual base and not only to the streamers or YouTubers who are very vocal. The old system of upgrading weapons needs to come back ASAP!
