Ahead of Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo, retired UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal expressed his feelings about the fight. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Masvidal declared that he would love to see Alvarez face Charlo in the ring. In his opinion, “these are the types of fights” that boxing currently needs. While Masvidal believes that Charlo will “throw bombs,” he is simultaneously of the opinion that Alvarez is still more skilled and polished in the sport.
According to Masvidal, Charlo needs to be “a hard-hitting dog” should he wish to win. On the other hand, he thinks Alvarez will display “more endurance” on September 30th. Additionally, being a Canelo fan, Masvidal lauded the Mexican boxer for “not cherry-picking” in the sport. Here is what the former BMF titleholder said.

Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, recently declared that Alvarez vs. Charlo would be a “terrific fight“. Masvidal is completely synonymous with the view. However, while Ellerbe expected “a lot of support” behind Charlo, Masvidal is “leaning towards Canelo“. “Great fight, I love it. This is what I love to see. Charlo is an undisputed champion and Canelo is one of the best pound-for-pound [fighters] right now. These are the types of fights, this is boxing,” Masvidal said.
Since Canelo is cleaner, more skilled and polished than Charlo, Masvidal instructed the African-American to be a hard-hitting dog. “It needs Charlo to be a hard-hitting dog, man. The dude will get tired, pushed through. I think Canelo’s a little bit more skilled, a little bit more polished, a little bit cleaner. He might even have more endurance,” Masvidal stated. “I’m definitely leaning toward Canelo in that fight,” he added.

Masvidal declares Canelo is not cherry-picking
According to Masvidal, ‘Cinnamon’ is always going up against the best fighters in the world. In his opinion, he is not ducking anybody in the sport. Although Canelo could avoid risks by selecting less-skilled fighters, he is “fighting the best every time.” He’s not cherry-picking. As a Canelo fan, he’s fighting the best every time. He’s not ducking anybody,” concluded the 38-year-old.
