The year was hers then the tables turned. In 2015, Ronda Rousey was still the biggest name UFC had ever known. Till August 2nd, she stood undefeated with 12 professional wins in the sport. However, shortly after Rousey fought Holly Holm. After a loss suffered for the first time, for over a year, Rousey then took a break from the sport.

Irrespective of how her career took various turns, critics and fans must acknowledge Rousey’s contribution to women’s participation in combat sports. For three years, Rousey held on to the Women’s Bantamweight title and brought enormous exposure to UFC and her sport.

In 2015, ahead of her match with Bethe Correia, Ronda Rousey met Mike Tyson. The former heavyweight champion of the world visited Rousey inside her gym. Tyson was left impressed seeing Rousey throw her training partners with her unparalleled judo skills.

Tyson was reminded of his younger self as he watched Rousey train for her upcoming fight. He said, “Ronda, she’s a lady. Polite, kind, sweet, and adorable. But her whole barometer is, she’s a killer. She has that killer aura, meaning anything is capable of happening. Whoa! That’s exciting before the fight even starts. I think of myself when I watch her.”

Tyson at the time of meeting Ronda was 49, and no more possessed the fire with which he once walked.

Being 49 years of age and long done with the sport, Tyson did not felt inclined toward training on high notes. He admitted that it was no more fun. However, ‘Iron’ heartily appreciated Rousey’s contribution to her sport.

Seeing Mike Tyson in the same gym as Ronda, Rousey’s mother asked her to get boxing tips from the legend himself Tyson. She said, “You should take some boxing tips from him.” At this, Tyson and Ronda both laughed.
