Mexican boxing phenom Canelo Alvarez has a massive fan following in his home country. The people of Mexico have always shown up in great numbers during Alvarez’s fight. Talking about Alvarez’s wild fanbase, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan recently talked about a time he was stunned by a Mexican tradition during Alvarez’s fight.

Combat sports are Joe Rogan’s absolute passion, and he talks about them frequently on his podcast. He spoke with Brian Redban in a current episode of his show. During their discussion of the affection that Mexicans have for their culture, Rogan related an incident that happened to him during Canelo Alvarez’s fight with Gennady Golovkin.

Rogan stated, “I went to see Canelo Alvarez’s fight with GGG. It was awesome. Because they got a mariachi band, full mariachi band. Whenever a Mexican fighter fights, they kind of have to have mariachi music, right, they kind of do.”

He further added, “Seeing a Canelo fight, where its all Canelo’s fans, and you get to see like in the person in the flash, and hear them all singing to this song you don’t even know, it’s pretty wild.”   

The people of Mexico pay a tribute to Canelo Alvarez 

Saul Canelo Alvarez is widely regarded as one of the greatest Mexican boxers the world has ever seen. After Floyd Mayweather’s retirement, he became the PPV king, as his fights always draw fairly large crowds. Recently, his native country honored him with a statue in Juanacatlán to recognize his contributions to the sport.

A deeply touched Alvarez shared some pictures from the ceremony and wrote, “It’s a great honor for me to be recognized in the place that watched me grow up and made me the person I am today. Thanks to the government of Juanacatlán for this recognition and to all the people who attended.”

Canelo Alvarez plans to compete in one of the toughest fights of his career

The Mexican boxer just defeated Gennady Golovkin in a sensational victory. During his trilogy bout with GGG, the undisputed super-middleweight champion improved his record to 58-2-2. He must first take care of some unfinished business, though.

Alvarez suffered the second defeat of his career at the hands of Dmitry Bivol earlier this year. It came as a huge upset to his fans. But he is eager to meet Bivol in a rematch to regain his respect. However, it appears that he would first face John Ryder inside the ring. We won’t know the outcome of this situation until it happens.
