The main card of UFC 293 just concluded as Sean Strickland stole the Middleweight Champion title from Israel Adesanya. This was the second title defense for ‘Izzy’, and he failed to defend it again. Before this, he faced the first defeat of his career against Alex Pereira, however, he avenged himself in the rematch. Well, Strickland clearly outsmarted Adesanya by reading his movements carefully, and landed a unanimous decision victory against ‘The Last Stylebender’. Interestingly, Strickland got crucial advice from the boxing 6-division world champion.
Oscar De La Hoya, in his recent post on X, was seen standing in front of his TV screen, highlighting the ways Strickland can secure a win against Adesanya. Intrinsically, as a promoter, De La Hoya loves giving advice. He even gave some to Jake Paul when he lost against Tommy Fury. The fans went wild in the comments.

In the post, De La Hoya is standing directly in front of his TV screen. That’s where he remarked that Strickland was fighting “too straight” and he needed to faint his punches against Adesanya to get him out of his “element”. Furthermore, the fans had a lot of interesting things to say about this advice.
One of the fans stated that ‘The Tarzan’ was already aware of the counter-attack of Izzy. For that reason, Adesanya had also tasted Strickland’s power and lost his balance a bit.
You saw how Sean was leaning away from that counter right? Izzy tasted his power and couldn’t stand his ground.

Another fan mentioned that Adesanya can never be thrown out of his “element”, as he’s always ready to counter. And that’s where Strickland out-witted him and never gave him that opportunity.
You cant get him out of his element that way he is always on the back foot waiting to counter. What sean did was stay poised and never gave him that moment and mentally wore izzy out with pressure alone.

One fan made a light-hearted joke that De La Hoya seems like the former boxer’s uncle at a family meetup, who used to explain what the fighter needs to be doing in the fight ongoing.
That uncle everyone has that used to box, tryin to explain to the whole family what each fighter should be doing 😂

A fan agrees with ‘Golden Boy’ and believes that Adesanya was throwing a lot of his attacks in panic because his opponent was able to predict his movements at every moment.
He’s right n I didn’t wanna say it but it seemed Izzy was throwing panic kicks n punches with no solid game plan. Nothing was working n Strickland was readin tf out of him this is bananas

An X user stated that De La Hoya forgot about the kicks and takedowns in MMA.

The majority of the fans did not agree with the advice that De La Hoya was giving to Strickland. Well, many pointed out that De La Hoya doesn’t know how to fight an MMA bout, as it’s very different from boxing. While some fans explained why he was wrong about the “faint the punches” technique. So, what are your thoughts about his advice? Let us know in the comments section.
