UFC Noche who? Canelo and Berlanga are stealing the spotlight—agree or disagree?

The closer we get to September 14, the more excitement builds for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga bill. It seems another rivalry is scheduled for the day, and it’s UFC vs. PBC and Dana White vs. Al Haymon. As the PBC continues to add more fights and prominent names to the card, it looks to seize the fans’ eyeballs and eventually topple the Noche UFC. Will they be successful? The fans hotly debate.

TalkSports’ Michael Benson turned to his X handle and confirmed 3 fights for the Alvarez vs. Berlanga undercard. The card gets more stacked after the addition of these fights and threatens to become the most talked about event of the year. So, who all have joined the card?

Benson confirmed that former champion Danny Garcia returns to action after a 2-year layoff and challenges Erislandy Lara for the latter’s WBA middleweight strap. And he is not the only one who ends his slump. Caleb Plant also wants another shot at the title and will go up against Trevor McCumby to make a statement and insert himself into the title conversation. What’s more? Another former champ in Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero returns and looks to get back into the groove, as he fights Manuel Jaimes. It’s a running theme for the night, isn’t it now?

However, this beefed-up card shares the same dates as Sean O’Malley‘s headlined Noche UFC. White, has already expressed frustration with the MGM for allowing the marquee boxing vs. MMA clash. The UFC CEO said, “Canelo’s one of those guys that I respect, and hey, good on [PBC’s Al] Haymon. Haymon snatched that date right away from me.” His concerns are valid, as they have already spent over $17 million on the UFC’s first event in Sphere, and having the biggest star in combat sports fight 2 miles down the same road on the same night is not a good sign for business. The fans also turned to the comment section to pit the two cards against each other.

Fans wonder whether Eminem is on the card

Have an interesting take?

A fan had a hot take about Garcia, 36, who is coming off a win over Jose Benavidez Jr., but that came over 2 years ago. They questioned the decision to hand him the title shot, especially when the fighter hadn’t fought in the division previously. They wrote, “Garcia doesn’t deserve a title shot at a division he ain’t fought at & hasn’t fought in 2 years.”

One user labeled the Noche UFC card at Sphere “washed,” as it only arguably boasted O’Malley, defending his crown against Merab Dvalishvili. If you look beyond the main event, you don’t see a name popping out except for the supporting act of Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko. They declared, UFC card down the street at the sphere is washed lol.”

Someone compared the Alvarez vs. Berlanga card to the recently concluded Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov card, where stars like Andy Ruiz and David Morrell showed up and some interesting storylines collided. They commented, “Trash Especially compared to the Crawford vs Madrimov card..”

A comment contrastingly expressed the opinion that the event would have some knockouts on offer for the fans. Apart from Alvarez, Plant and ‘Rolly’ Romero have a penchant for knockouts and it might turn to a night of acting, thick and fast action. The comment read, “Card shaping up to have quite a few stoppages.”

However, there are concerns about the resume of the fighters Plant and Romero will face in the squared circle. As both are either coming off a loss or a layoff, a fan believed they had given names they could defeat without sweat and build their momentum. They argued, “Look like they are giving Plant and Rollie bounce back type fights because I don’t think their opponents are PPV Canelo card worthy.”

Lastly, someone hilariously drew parallels with Crawford vs. Madrimov’s card, which was promoted by HE Turki Alalshikh and had the fans gifted cars and a trip to Saudi Arabia. In addition, Eminem also performed live during the event. They comically put forth a question, “Will they give away cars and have Eminem perform tho.”
