Canelo vs. Berlanga sold out while UFC Noche struggles—Is boxing making a comeback over UFC?

September 14 presents a tough choice for the boxing fans. It’s a toss-up between the face of boxing, Canelo Alvarez, and the exhilarating experience of Noche UFC at Sphere. However, it seems Oscar De La Hoya has made a choice. He has already chalked out plans for the weekend—“hang out” with Dana White.

Dana White, 55, and Canelo Alvarez, 34, have been at loggerheads for staging the event on the same date and around the same vicinity, which might end up affecting one event more than the other. But one boxing personality watching the Noche UFC up close is De La Hoya, 51, who even found hilarious similarities between him and the UFC CEO.

De La Hoya turned to his Instagram handle and gave hot takes on the latest developments of the boxing world in ‘Clap Back Thursday’. The Barcelona Olympics gold medalist specified his decision to attend Noche UFC and said, “I’ll actually be attending the UFC event at Sphere instead.” In addition, he went on to describe his love for boxing and how he would watch sparring matches and street boxing. But despite that, he picked a UFC event.

The Golden Boy Promotions lynchpin continued and comically pointed out the abs surgery that White and he had gotten done. He added, “Dana, I can’t wait to see you next Saturday, buddy. I see you got the same abs surgery I got. I always knew you wanted to be like me, bro. It will be great to hang out with you face to face.”

Interestingly, De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez, at 61-2-2, have developed an animosity in recent years after their split. The two don’t shy away from blasting each other, and if De La Hoya is to be believed, the Alvarez vs. Berlanga card doesn’t offer a better deal and action.

In the same clip posted on his social media handles, the California native labeled Alvarez vs. Berlanga a bout nobody asked for. Calling it a robbery, he then declared, “Canelo is fighting Berlanga, another snoozefest. They’re trying to sell a PPV for $90 at a $500 minimum in person. It’s just robbery at this point to pay for another lame Canelo that always goes the distance against a sub-par opponent.”

It remains to be seen how the two events will pan out and which figure will turn up at which event. But it will be a night worth remembering for the combat sports fans.
