Katie Taylor is undoubtedly one of the biggest crowd-pullers in women’s boxing. From being a two-division world champion and the current undisputed lightweight champion to having an unbeaten track record to match her legacy, she has set arenas on fire since turning pro in 2016. Taylor’s April 2022 showdown against Amanda Serrano, was one of her most iconic bouts yet. It was recently reported that the duo is preparing for a rematch in May 2023. But, the venue had to be changed due to the mounting security costs. However, it looks like the organizers might have found a sturdy hand of support in UFC superstar, Conor McGregor.
Taylor was scheduled to fight Serrano at Croke Park in Dublin for her homecoming fight. But the venue had to be changed to Dublin’s 3Arena after negotiations with the Gaelic Athletic Association fell through. As per BBC, talking about the failed negotiations, Croke Park’s director, Peter McKenna said, “I think the surprise was that our focus on security and attention to detail was far more than they would have expected in a Wembley scenario or Bethnal Green scenario.”
