‘Captain Hook’ Roy Jones Jr. shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Being one of boxing’s most hardened veterans, with multiple world championships in four weight classes, most people might assume that he is ready to hang up his gloves. However, this notion seems to be further away from reality. In fact, it was recently reported that Jones Jr. is set to step into the ring with UFC fighter, Anthony Pettis, as the MMA star transitions into boxing. Boxing fans, on the other hand, could not keep calm.

Jones Jr. was last seen in an exhibition match against former heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson in 2020. It was recently reported that he will fight Pettis at Gamebred Boxing 4 on April 1, 2023. Notably, Gamebred Boxing is promoted by UFC superstar, Jorge Masvidal. Moreover, Masvidal seemed elated at the prospect of Pettis fighting Jones Jr. And addressed the same on Ariel Helwani’s podcast, saying, “He agreed to fight the walking, living legend, the pound-for-pound king, one of the best fighters, athletes, I’ve ever seen in combat sports, period, vs. Pettis.”
It sure will be a sight to witness how Jones Jr. fares against a younger fighter like Pettis.
Fans were intrigued by Roy Jones Jr vs Anthony Pettis
There is no denying that both fans and the combat sports fraternity were excited at the prospect of a Jones Jr. vs Pettis fight. In fact, a lot of them took to the comments to share their thoughts about the same.
UFC fighter, Arnold Allen, was quick to say, “That Semtex fight seems illegal. Damn.”
And, former UFC flyweight, Jessica Eye, pitched in saying, “Damn all fire!!”
Excited reactions quickly followed. Ron Stoppable said, “Actually got him a solid card going.”
Similarly, Hansel Andres Aquino mentioned, “Damn now this is good.”
Meanwhile, Drew did not mince words, adding, “I’m happier about this than any other circus influencer bullshit they’ve been trying to feed us.”

However, Burak Bobo did not look too excited about the fight. He said, “Worst match-up/matchmaking in history.”
It will be safe to say that fans are unquestionably waiting for an explosive showdown on April 1.
