Floyd Mayweather is set to take on Mikuru Asakura in an exhibition bout on September 24th in Japan. However, it looks like the former champ has already made plans for who he will face next. ‘Money’ is now looking to face his former rival UFC superstar Conor McGregor after their match back in 2017.

In an interview with MailSport, the former champion revealed that there were ongoing talks about a potential match with McGregor. He stated that it could be an exhibition or a professional bout, although he would prefer it to be an exhibition.

We don’t know if it’s going to be an exhibition or a real fight, but there’s been talks of both. I would prefer an exhibition,” he said. This was an interesting revelation by Mayweather, as it was recently confirmed that he would be facing YouTube sensation Deji in a boxing match. Moreover, the fans were also quick to point this out as they reacted to this announcement.

One fan stated that it would be a shame to see Mayweather get knocked out by Deji before facing McGregor.

Another fan expressed that ‘Money’ should face UFC lightweight title contender Dustin Poirier instead of McGregor.

Moreover, another fan claimed that his plans will hit a roadblock after Deji knocks him out.

One fan even went as far as stating that Mayweather is ruining his legacy by fighting non-boxers like Deji and McGregor.

Since his retirement from boxing, Mayweather has been on a run of exhibition bouts. This has made him the target of criticism from many fans who believe that he is just fighting to get paid and not test himself.

However, Mayweather’s entire career is based on taking the fights where he could make the most possible money. A second match with Conor McGregor certainly checks off the financial aspect, as their first fight was one of the highest-grossing fights in boxing’s history.
