Therefore, it is no surprise that many wanted the two to square off. However, Ali did not think that the two should ever fight. In an interview back in 2015, ahead of the clash between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, she was asked if she would like to face ‘Rowdy’.

Laila Ali once detailed why she would not face Ronda Rousey

Ali stated that this rivalry was nothing more than a media rumor and that she was not interested in facing the former UFC champion.

No, it never was you guys started that you guys thought of that,” she said.

Moreover, she went on to give her brutally honest take on the hypothetical fight claiming that she was a ‘retired’ boxer and not a UFC fighter.

I am a boxer, not a UFC fighter, that’s it and I’m a retired boxer. I’m my boss. Nobody else makes me do anything I don’t want to do. I don’t need to do so” she added

Lastly, she was asked if she would face Rousey in a boxing match to which she dropped a reality check.

“No, I’m retired. She’s not in my weight class. Never was never will be” said Ali.

The former middleweight champion seemed confident in her abilities in the boxing ring. However, she was skeptical about beating Rousey in an MMA fight.

Ronda Rousey once claimed that she could beat Ali in a boxing match

Rousey seemed confident that she could beat Ali in a boxing match. In an interview with TMZ back in 2015, she claimed she could beat the former champion in a boxing match. She added that this was due to her adaptability as an athlete who transitioned from judo to MMA.

Honestly, I think I could beat her in boxing too really, to be honest, but you know. I’m an Olympic athlete and I would want time to focus on that entirely but if I can go from judo to MMA why couldn’t I go from MMA to boxing?” said Rousey.

Despite her confidence, it is hard to see Rousey giving Ali a hard time in a boxing match. Ali competed at 168 pounds for most of her career while Rousey competed at 135 pounds.

Moreover, she is a far more skilled boxer than ‘Rowdy’ who wasn’t known for her striking pedigree.
