Although Francis Ngannou lost the decision against Tyson Fury, he certainly won the hearts of those who attended or tuned in for the ‘Battle of the Baddest.’ Proving his doubters wrong who believed ‘The Gypsy King’ would annihilate the mixed martial artist, ‘The Predator’ displayed his sheer will and commitment to fighting. As a result, on the merit of his performance against Fury, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told Ngannou’s trainer they would rank ‘The Predator’ in their top ten.
Following the declaration by the president of WBC, BoxRec, a platform that provides updated data and records of recognized professional boxers, revealed the French-Cameroonian athlete’s heavyweight ranking. After HappyPunch shared the same on X, several fans objected to it. Here is what they are saying.

Given how Ngannou stood his ground against the undefeated WBC Heavyweight champion in his debut boxing match, many thought ‘The Predator’ earned himself a place in the category of the top ten heavyweight boxers in the sport. However, BoxRec disappointed the fans as the platform ranked the 38-year-old 591 / 1,423. At this, one fan reiterated that Ngannou just “went toe to toe with the heavyweight champion.”
He went to toe to toe with the heavyweight champion and lost by 1 point, of course

On the other hand, one stated Ngannou “would knock out about 580” of the boxers who are ahead of him as per BoxRec.

Meanwhile, one claimed Ngannou, who is the true champ in Mike Tyson’s eyes, “literally beat Fury.” In their opinion, he should be in the top ten.
He literally beat fury.. He should be in the top 10 rankings

However, one justified BoxRec’s ranking by stating that Ngannou had only one fight. In addition, they proposed a fight between Andy Ruiz Jr. and ‘The Predator.’
He only has 1 fight, the fuck do you want to place him at? The top 5? He lost to fury, set him up with Andy Ruiz Jr. and let’s see how we does.

Finally, one argued that Ngannou had more fights in his career than some who belong to the top 20.
Let’s see, how many ranked fighters has he beat?
How many people in the top 20 have more boxing fights than his MMA and boxing record combined?

Although fans have their opinions, one must admit that Ngannou needs more fights before entering the top ten category. Speaking of which, Ngannou recently announced the boxers he would like to face after Fury.

If Fury wants to rematch Ngannou, the latter would happily take it. But, in the wake of his controversial loss to Fury, Ngannou’s manager told Sky Sports that Deontay Wilder wants to fight ‘The Predator.’ However, he also informed that Anthony Joshua was the mixed martial artist’s primary preference. “Deontay is interested in fighting Francis Ngannou. But his first choice is still Anthony Joshua,” Ngannou’s manager said.
Francis Ngannou had also claimed that boxers think twice before transitioning into MMA but the same does not hold true when it comes to mixed martial artists. ‘The Bronze Bomber’ is open to stepping inside the octagon but we will only know when this happens once a formal announcement has been made.
