And what better way to amp up the hype than to have the biggest draw in British boxing take a sip? The UFC legend, whose net worth is around $200 million, charged down to ringside to meet the victorious Anthony Joshua and offered the drink. It’s a different fact; as much as he enjoyed it, the former champion forgot what he had while speaking to the media.
The seventh-round knockdown of Robert Helenius was much-needed solace for the crowd at the O2 Arena. But probably, they needed something more than that. The icing on the cake needed an Irish twist. Fans and viewers probably wouldn’t have had the chance to witness McGregor’s cameo. But for Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn’s persistence, the Heavyweight bout on August 12 came off in time.

So post-fight, while he addressed the media, one of the reporters asked, “You had a few sips of Conor McGregor’s beer after? Do you switch off after?” Joshua replied that during his amateur days, his then-trainer Sean Murphy highlighted the benefits of Guinness on the human body. A significant source of much-needed Iron. He said, “So I thought, you know what, let’s neck a bit of iron.”

Is ‘AJ’ ready?
For Anthony Joshua, it would be the year’s second fight. Coming back from consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk, questions about his ability to carry on arose. However, determined to stage a comeback to the big leagues, he defeated the American Jermaine Franklin on April 1. But to many, the unanimous victory raised further doubts. Hence, he needed to return to the ring with a bang. But whether the early stoppage puts him on an equal footing with someone like Deontay Wilder, time alone can tell.
