On the 1st of June 2002, former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, in a WBA Heavyweight Title Eliminator fight, squared off against Hasim Rahman Hematoma in the ring. In the latest episode of the Joe Rogan Podcast, host Joe Rogan relived this particular event which he branded as “a crazy brawl” witnessed in boxing.  What stood out for Rogan on JRE was the fearful injury that Hasim Rahman received against Holyfield. Therefore, with his guest Punkie Johnson, on the same, Rogan offered a brief analysis.

While Hasim Rahman entered the fight with 3 losses and 35 wins, Holyfield defeated him via an 8th-round TKO in the ring. On JRE, looking at Rahman’s swollen head, Rogan said, “Something happened Sometimes dudes accidentally collide heads and your tissue rips, and then the inside of your head fills up with blood. So it was a punch that did it. I remember this fight was a crazy brawl.”

Watching the fight closely between Hasim Rahman and Evander Holyfield, Joe Rogan soon realized how Rahman’s head had already been “a little swollen already”. According to Rogan, that swelling either resulted from a collision of the heads or from an accurate and powerful punch thrown by Holyfield. Whatever the case be, Rogan believes that this is one of the rare moments ever witnessed in boxing.

“That’s right. Looks like it might have been a little swollen already. And then he lands like a perfect punch. Hasim looked like he was already a little swollen. they may have collided heads or maybe another punch had done it. Super, super rare,” Rogan concluded by saying.
