UFC commentator Joe Rogan has been an avid combat sports fan for a long time. While MMA has been his calling, he is also very informed about the sport of boxing and sometimes gives his analysis of the sweet science. However, the former Fear Factor Host might have some controversial takes on an infamous incident in boxing.

Back in 2011, former 5 division champion Floyd Mayweather beat Victor Ortiz to add another victory to his record. Despite that, many felt that he won the fight in an unfair manner after knocking him out while he was not ready to fight. Many felt that Mayweather’s move was not legal and that he should not have been awarded the victory. However, Rogan had some other ideas.

On the latest episode of his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience he claimed that what Mayweather did during the fight was completely legal and that he was on his side. Moreover, he added that Ortiz was constantly head-butting ‘TBE’, which might have prompted him to sucker punch him.

First off all I’m with team Floyd Mayweather on that exchange. You have to protect yourself at all times. Also, Victor Ortiz did something dirty he head-butted him also that’s just all within the rules of boxing that’s why he won the fight.” said Rogan.

The pair fought for the WBC welterweight title back in 2011 and many were expecting the fight to be a great contest. However, in the 4th round, Ortiz would land an illegal headbutt sending Mayweather to the ropes. The referee for the match, Joe Cortez, then deducted a point from Ortiz and called both fighters in the middle of the ring to touch gloves.

However, after touching the gloves, the referee signaled the fight was started, with Mayweather landing two clean shots at an unguarded Ortiz. ‘Money’ would go on to win this fight, adding his 42nd victory to his iconic record.
