As we get closer to the big fight between Tyson Fury and former UFC fighter Francis Ngannou, the former has been at the receiving end of very harsh criticism. The barrage of disapproval that is coming his way is a result of multiple reasons. One is him letting go of a fight against Oleksandr Usyk. The two heavyweight boxers were to clash in December for the unification of all titles in the weight class. However, the fight did not materialize as a result of constant roadblocks in the negotiations. Reportedly, the breakdown of the fight has been attributed to various reasons – from the purse percentage to the rematch clause.

Moreover, he is being lambasted because of his choice of opponent in the next fight. His choosing of Ngannou has not gone down well with boxing enthusiasts. This is because the opponent has never fought in a pro boxing bout. This would be his first time in the squared circle after wrapping up his long-standing association with the UFC. The fighter exited the organization after his professional relationship with Dana White deteriorated. UFC does not let its fighters explore other avenues of combat without its permission. Now that Fury vs Ngannou is all set, the former has found a supporter who understands his decision.

“He’s a super champion in my eyes,” Scott Welch shares his words of support for Tyson Fury

The former British heavyweight boxer Scott Welch came down heavily in support of ‘The Gypsy King.’ As he becomes a sponge for heavy criticism for his exhibition fight against Ngannou, he has found support in Welch.

The former fighter said, “What he did, is went over to America, not once but three times. He’s done more than anyone would have dared to. He’s a super champion in my eyes, He’s a great fighter. After that last, you know, even the Chisora fight. The Chisora was one he deserved after the big fight. The Whyte fight. So after that, he deserves an easy fight…”

Scott further spoke about why Fury’s choice is not that hard to understand. Speaking vividly about the fighter needing a little bit of a breather, Scott said, “We knew that he was probably gonna get beat, you know? But he should’ve maybe, he should’ve announced that he was gonna do a lot of tours. And go around, and he going to fight a few people and come back when he’s ready. Cause I think mentally, he needs a break as well.”

However, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren offered another perspective regarding Fury remaining dormant in the boxing scene since his last fight against Derek Chisora in December, 2022.

Perhaps, Fury never received any offers?

The Gypsy King’s co-promoter Frank Warren  defended the fighter against allegations of him passing on some high-profile matchups. The promoter claimed that his fighter has not received any offer this year. The last time Fury was in the ring was against Derek Chisora in the final installment of the trilogy fight. Both Tyson and his promoter have multiple times gone on the record to tell that they’ve made many offers for plausible fights, but they did not come to fruition.

“Tyson Fury is the only one of them who said he would do his fights in the UK whatever they generate; it’s the opposition that wouldn’t do the fights,” said Warren speaking about the lack of responses he received.

He further said, “We made offers, that’s a fact, but there’s not been one offer to Tyson Fury this year.”
