Jake Paul has made his stance clear on the burning question of who should Jon Jones fight next. The same has divided the fans for the better of 2024, partly because of the UFC heavyweight champion’s injury and partly because of the rapid surge of Tom Aspinall. The debate is tense and heated in such a scenario, but ‘The Problem Child’ has already picked the side and explained whom he favors.
Jones, 37, will make a defense of his heavyweight strap against Stipe Miocic in November. The two would have fought by now, if not for his injury, derailing his legacy fight with Miocic, 42. But in between, Aspinall, 31, scored two first-round knockouts of Sergei Pavlovich and Curtis Blaydes, and collected the interim title. The fans have been since falling behind the idea that ‘Bones’ would defend his title against the British fighter soon. As the delay stretches, the fans blast Jones, at 27-1, for evading the fight against a tougher contender. However, Paul, 27, doesn’t think so.
The YouTuber-turned-prizefighter turned to his X handle and expressed his view on the dispute. He believed that Jones knew what he was doing. Paul, at 10-1, wrote, “Jon Jones doesn’t dodge anyone. He knows exactly what he’s doing.” In addition, he argued that it all depended on the money paid upfront. Lastly, he pointed out how Jones vs. Aspinall could be done, as the supposed fight would target two markets and the right pay of $25 million plus a part of the PPV profits should be guaranteed.

The Cleveland native continued, “Show him the money 💰 – that real money. Not that spin the narrative money. Him versus Aspinal is massive as it hits two big ppv markets. $25M guarantee plus ppv seems about right. @JonnyBones.”

Despite the criticism surrounding the fight, Jones remains committed to the fight with Miocic. And he is not the only one. The UFC CEO Dana White has also been under fire for holding on to the fight.

White, 55, after the conclusion of Dana White’s Contender Series 69, engaged with the media. When faced with similar questions about his persistence on Jones vs. Miocic, he laid down the resume of the former heavyweight champion and the circumstances under which the fight had to be pushed. He said, “The guy [Stipe Miocic] who’s looked at as the greatest heavyweight in the UFC, right?”
“This fight’s set up. Jon Jones gets hurt. It’s not his fault. He has to wait and go back into training camp again. He was training. So do I just yank it away from Stipe and say, ‘Sit on the sidelines for two more years’?” he added. It remains to be seen how long the UFC lynchpin can defend his matchmaking choice when the fans are up in arms against it.
