While Anderson Silva started his career as a professional mixed martial artist, Jake Paul started by creating content on YouTube. In spite of their different roots, both Silva and Paul have today turned boxers. In a recent interview, ‘Spider’ revealed what boxing meant to him and why he chose the sport.

Talking about boxing, he spoke of the time a fighter to whom he once lost all five rounds and who “completely” destroyed Silva’s mind. According to Silva, these are the scenarios that help him find motivation and eventually take the upcoming fight with Paul.

The legendary fighter whom Silva indicated was Chael Sonnen. The duo fought at UFC 117 and UFC148. In their first encounter, Sonnen dominated Silva the majority of the fight till the Brazilian won via submission. However, in the second fight, Silva had cracked the code. Speaking of his memories with Sonnen, Silva referred to boxing.
He said, “But boxing in my life is very special because I grew up watching a lot of boxing, training with the Brazilian team. I come to this sport to show my respect. For a lot of boxers, professional fighters doing something special for us. I’m so happy to be here and continue to do my job. Continue doing something I love, I’m so happy.”
