The Tokyo Olympics 2020 aren’t even through their first week, but the fans have already witnessed some out-of-the-box performances from athletes across all sports, especially the boxing fans. So far, they have thoroughly enjoyed their time seeing the young guns putting their heart out in these games, and there haven’t been too many controversies pertaining to the decisions by match officials either. And that’s one prime reason why fans are still hooked to the Games.
But in the past, there have been enormous instances wherein boxers like Floyd Mayweather and more got robbed even after displaying their best versions in these games.

1) Floyd Mayweather – 1996 Olympics
‘Money’ took part in the 1996 Olympics, and that entire stint, he seemed to be in his top momentum. In the semi-finals, he faced Serafim Todorov, and Mayweather looked keen on bagging that gold.
Floyd gave his absolute best in the fight, and a huge chunk of fans believed that he won. However, the judges ruled in Todorov’s favor, thus leaving everyone in awe.
2) Roy Jones Jr. – 1988 Olympics
Jones Jr. fought Park Si-Heon in the 1988 Olympics for the ultimate gold medal. Right from the first gong, he made his intentions clear and completely outclassed his fellow adversary in this fight. Si-Heon, too, had his fair and share of moments and the judges termed him as a winner.
This fight is still regarded as one of the greatest robberies in boxing.
3) Gary Russell – 2016 Olympics?
Gary Russell locked horns with Fazliddin Gaibnazarov in the light-middleweight quarter-finals in 2016 Rio Olympics. Being the aggressor, Russell went toe to toe with his fellow rival. Despite putting on a show, he lost the fight, which shook him and his father, Gary Russell Sr. to the core.

Even Floyd Mayweather felt Russell was robbed. Speaking to some reporters later, he said, “Gary Russell was robbed ? clearly, clearly,”
4) Michael Conlan – 2016 Olympics
Another incident that left a blot on 2016 Olympics boxing was Michael Conlan’s loss to Vladimir Nikitin. The Irishman put on a show in his bout against Nikitin, but the results favored the Russian.
Post the fight, Conlan fumed over the judgement and he certainly saw a huge number of fans backing him over the same. This decision also poured cold water on his aspirations to bag a gold.

5) Evander Holyfield – 1984 Olympics
Holyfield faced Kevin Barry in the semifinals of the 1984 Olympic games held in the USA. ‘The Real Deal’ seemed a clear winner in this fight from the very first second. But in round 2, with just a few seconds left, Holyfield landed a combo, with a right hook to the body along with a strong left hook to the head which left Barry on the canvas.

Later, the referee ruled Barry out as a knockout victim, and he disqualified Holyfield for hitting his opponent even after the break had been called.
