Did Shakira's Copa America performance outshine the actual game? Let's hear your thoughts!

Boxing fans instantly feel electrified when they hear the phrase “Let’s get ready to rumble” before a fight. This catchphrase was popularized by legendary announcer Michael Buffer. He first used this phrase in 1984, and since then, it has been a popular line among boxing fans. The famed American ring announcer was recently seen introducing Colombian singer Shakira for her performance at the Copa America final soccer game between Argentina and Colombia on Sunday.

It was the first time that the tournament had a halftime show longer than 15 minutes. Buffer came forward to introduce the pop icon who quickly caught the attention of the entire arena. After the performance at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Buffer took to X to express his feelings about the show.

Let’s get ready to rumble… with Shakira

The legendary announcer was for the 2024 Copa America Final. Argentine fans were ecstatic to witness their national team win the title. But the stadium erupted with excitement for Shakira’s incredible performance as well. The next day, Michael Buffer took to his X account. He noted, “It was so exciting to be a part of last night’s spectacular ConMebol Copa America Final and the Performance of Shakira at halftime! “LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!”®

Following the first half of the Columbia vs. Argentina match, Michael Buffer said, “Ladies and gentlemen, let’s get ready to rumble…,” and the music for Shakira’s entrance began. Before her performance, she made a grand entrance and said “Hello Miami” to the ecstatic crowd. A massive wolf howled with the help of the usage of 3D mapping technology just before Shakira joined the stage. She began her performance on the well-known beats from ‘Hips Don’t Lie’. 

Apart from Shakira’s performance, Argentina suffered a setback in the 64th minute of the game as their main man Lionel Messi was benched due to an injury. Despite that, the team showed their spirit and won the game.

The Argentine talisman made his country proud as he captained and helped win the FIFA World Cup in 2022. It was such a massive celebration that the entire world was celebrating Messi’s win. Circling back to the July 14th match, the former Barcelona false-9 had to walk off the field in the second half due to a leg injury.

The 37-year-old legendary soccer player slumped on the field while sprinting. The trainers hurried to the field right away to examine him. The Argentine fans were now afraid if they would win or not, as they saw Messi take off his captain’s armband. The Inter Miami superstar was seen in tears as he was sitting on the Argentine bench. 

It was probably his last Copa America, thus giving him the last chance to win it for his country. However, his teammates were able to secure a 1-0 victory over Columbia for him.
