Ahead of his mandatory title defense against Daniel Dubois on the 26th of August, Oleksandr Usyk joined the Ukrainian Soccer Premier League. Reportedly, the current unified heavyweight champion of the world has signed a one-year contract with the team FC Polissya. As per updates, last year in February, Oleksandr Usyk participated in a friendly match for FC Polissya against Veres. With Usyk on the team, Polissya even won the match with a score of 2-1.
After over a year, FC Polissya decided to sign Usyk officially. As per the reports, Usyk had promised that if FC Polissya got promoted, he would definitely sign for the team and play professionally with them on the field. After FC Polissya achieved promotion, Usyka and the club sealed a deal.

It is likely that Oleksandr Usyk will begin his career for FC Polissya after his bout with Daniel Dubois. Meanwhile, the incident of Usyk suddenly joining the Ukrainian Soccer Premier League as a professional player makes one wonder if the 36-year-old is considering an extensive break from boxing or a potential retirement from the sport. In this regard, Usyk himself has yet to deliver a statement. However, an official statement by FC Polissya informed that the “president of the club, Hennadiy Butkevich, and Oleksandr Usyk concluded an official agreement on football cooperation for one year“.

In addition, the statement informed the public that Usyk would play wearing the number 17 jersey on the field. “Usyk will perform under number 17. Expect other details of the contract later,” the statement reported by talkSPORT announced. Usyk, who claimed to know something that would potentially destroy Tyson Fury’s image, is now happy to have joined the mentioned league. Only time will tell whether or not he will continue his boxing career after the Dubois fight.
