Kansas City Chiefs have yet again proved their might in the Week 4 game against the New York Jets. The Chiefs are currently riding on a 3 winning streak as they hold the top position in the AFC West group. Still, the SNF had every fan on the edge of their seats, as the Chiefs ended the game on a tight note. Although the quick beginning with a 17-point advantage helped a lot in later quarters, the Chiefs struggled to resemble the team that has been to three Super Bowls in the past five seasons.
So much so, that the renowned boxing promoter, Lou DiBella, questioned a last-minute call taken by the star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. DiBella claimed to have lost a lot of money because of that call and lashed out at the Chiefs’ shot-caller. However, the fans came to Mahomes’ aid and checked DiBella.

In the last two minutes of the game, Mahomes had an opportunity to score a TD, but he instead decided to slide and keep the ball. Thus keeping the score stuck to 23-20, when they could have had a further 9-point lead. This enraged Lou DiBella and he criticized Mahomes for this decision. Even Dave Portnoy felt a similar feeling as DiBella.
He stated that the players should be aware of the money that’s being invested in these plays since gambling is so closely related to this game. According to one estimate, this play could have hit a collective loss of $80 million. DiBella wrote, “With gambling so connected to #NFL #football, and millions of $$$ riding on that play, ANOTHER bad look. Lost Thursday night in a similarly bizarre manner.” The fans corrected him instantly.
One of the fans stated that it was a smart decision, as that didn’t let the Jets have the ball, and kept the game to themselves for the rest of the two minutes.
Why let the Jets get the ball back at all when you can just kneel it out?

Another fan stated that this game was necessary, as another cycle of defensive play opens the possibility of players getting injured. So, what Mahomes did was “perfectly logical” for the fan.
Wins the game and avoids another defense cycle that could potentially end in injuries..perfectly logical, if not appreciated by those betting!

One fan pointed out that this decision was the game-ending one, as this ensured the Chiefs’ victory. Moreover, a defensive player was closing on him, which would have posed an issue.
Two reasons:
1) it was a game ending decision
2) a defender was closing on him, and might’ve taken his dome off— GatorBrent (@gator_brent) October 2, 2023
A fan corrected DiBella, that the touchdown would have never sealed the game, instead the sliding did.
They even called the tweet a bad look on the promoter.
What was bizarre about it ? A td doesn’t seal the game there ! Sliding seals the game lol wtf do you think at all before you fire off a tweet? This is such a horrific tweet on so many level.

An X user told the promoter that such things had been happening way before the gambling was “accepted” so publicly.

The fans had a clear mindset on why Mahomes made such a decision. They understood why he went for a slide instead of the TD at the last moment. Many believe this decision is the reason that gave the edge to his team. And a TD would put his team under pressure yet again. What are your thoughts about this? Tell us in the comments section.
