22 penalties and 204 yards surrendered. If there were stats that could sum up the Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets game, it was this. The game had everything a fan didn’t want to see, officiating errors and multiple disruptions. Even Aaron Rodgers‘ Hail Mary couldn’t save the game. However, the third quarter segment caused the most concern among fans.

Notably, the Bills derailed the Jets’ new dawn, as they squeezed out a win with a score of 23-20. The fight was supposed to be a Bills’ offensive onslaught vs. the Jets’ defensive prowess. But the fans could only see a flag fest and hear the referee’s whistles. The situation became unbearing in the third quarter when linebacker AJ Espenesa hugged Rodgers and put him down on the grass with 9:32 left on the clock. However, the officials deemed it a roughing the passer foul, as Espenesa put his weight down on the four-times MVP.

This caused an uproar on the internet, with Lou DiBella turning to his X handle and calling it a “terrible” call. He wrote, “This is a terrible, terrible, call … the inconsistency and unpredictability of #NFL refereeing is reminiscent of #boxing judging. Where’s the foul?!?!”

The International Boxing HOFer was later joined by Rick Glaser, who had similar views. The boxing insider’s post read, “The #Bills-#Jets games was the worse played #NFL game I have ever seen. That was awful!! #MNF #ESPN #Football.”

Interestingly, they are not the only ones who disagreed with this call and many other similar ones in the match. Rodgers, 40, also blasted the passer penalties post-game. He declared, “It seemed a little ridiculous. Some of them seemed really bad. Including the roughing the passer on me, that’s not roughing the passer.” For many fans, the weekend was brimming with frustrating calls by referees and bad officiating. The boxing world also had a similar call.

From Beterbiev vs. Bivol to Bills vs. Jets: officiating horrors

Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol swayed the fans and put on a show for them. But the judges’ scorecards and the eventual decision took away the shine. Judge Pawel Kardyni’s scorecard of 116-112 puzzled many, as Beterbiev edged out Bivol and bagged the undisputed crown at 175. While one judge had it even at 114, the other scored it in favor of Beterbiev at 115-113. Therefore, such wide scores didn’t sit well with the fans.

In addition, many pros and pundits labeled the result a robbery. What’s more?

Bivol’s team has threatened to take legal action against the official and contest the decision. There have been calls for a rematch given the fight’s closely fought nature and controversial scoring. It remains to be whether the two will run it back or not. For fans, though, seeing such results and officiating within a couple of days must not have been a pleasurable experience.
