It is the ultimate night of redemption for Zhilei Zhang. Tomorrow, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, the Chinese heavyweight will enter the ring for the second time this year, not to inch toward greatness but to prove himself. After all, he will need to defeat Deontay Wilder to rehaul his career from the loss Joseph Parker gave him earlier this year. Will he be able to bring his ‘Big Bang’ to the ring?

On the fight front, his 26-2-1 record testifies to the moniker, and on the entertainment side? Well, if his previous walkout song selections are to be considered, Zhang is definitely one who lives to entertain his fans. Here is how his ringwalks went previously.

A ‘Rocking’ Entry for Zhilei Zhang

Zhang’s last in-ring stint was not his best moment. In fact, if one would consider an array of his lows in his career, his fight against Parker would end up on that list. The matchup that happened at the same Kingdom Arena that he fights in tomorrow saw the 41-year-old fighter take a major beating after his Kiwi opponent defeated him through a majority decision. While that might have altered the way the boxing world envisioned him, his walkout was no less than that of a rockstar.

Decked in a shimmery, satin, gold robe, the 6’6” tall fighter appeared as though he was a bejeweled spectacle. With no huge entourage beside him as such, Zhilei Zhang walked calmly toward the ring, confidence up his shoulder, with the 1977 hit by the band Queen, “We Will Rock You” blasting behind him. This came after he laid a befitting premise earlier at the press conference for the event, which was primarily an Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou event, on whose undercard he fought.

Funky Dee’s infamous song, “Are You Gonna Bang Doe,” is often considered a track that does not suit any occasion. However, Zhang entered the pre-fight presser on this song, making that segment of the event a bit chirpy with all the beats of the song increasing the energy in the room.

While his fight against Parker is seen as the moment when Zhang had to reconsider his stint in the ring, his fights before it, specifically against Joe Joyce were seen as his prime. For those fights, he chose equally iconic means to enter the ring.

Two Wins and Two Iconic Walks

In April last year, Zhilei Zhang went against Joe Joyce in a bid to redeem himself from the on-point loss he incurred at the hands of Filip Hrgovic. The London fight was completely in favor of the southpaw right from the beginning. In the sixth round, a punch to Joyce’s face resulted in the fight being terminated and Zhang emerging as the interim WBO champion. With so much action that night in the ring, the audience too was not left in sudden shock. Zhang had primed them for what was to come with his ring walk.

He rooted the 1984 pop culture classic title track from Terminator 2: Judgement Day by Brad Fiedel. He emerged in a red robe with gold detailing that mirrored his arrival as a King. Later on, when called for a rematch, he picked yet another classic that now seems like his signature walk-in music.

In September of the same year, he fought Joyce for the second time at Wembley. That fight too, Zhang won superbly, finishing the fight prematurely in the 3rd round with a knockout. Confident of winning the rematch and retaining his interim champion status, he picked Queen’s “We Will Rock You”. Yes, the same track that he used for the Joseph Parker fight.
