Devin Haney's fair fiasco—Is he really the bigshot boxer he claims to be?

Devin Haney is finding himself embroiled in controversy more often than ever since getting dropped three times on the canvas by Ryan Garcia. The San Francisco native added a new chapter of controversy to his life when he recently threw a punch at a civilian at the Orange County Fair. Fans and pros alike blasted him for his actions and now Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero has also jumped on the bandwagon. What did he say?

Haney, 25, and his entourage jumped on a civilian during an altercation, and the clips of it soon went viral on the internet. ‘KingRy’ was quick to shun him. Romero, 29, also didn’t shy away from questioning his antics when he appeared in an interview with Fight Hype TV.

When asked about the incident, the former WBA super lightweight champion wondered about the large numbers of bodyguards ‘The Dream’ had with him. He also pointed out the need for Haney, at 30-0, to throw a punch in the fight. He said, “You have 17 bodyguards. Why the f*ck you doing anything? But why are you doing anything, and then honestly, why are you even arguing with a fan?”

Romero, at 15-2, continued and elaborated on the reputation of the WBC champion and the need to risk his career over a remark. He added, “You’re supposed to be this big-shot boxer. This dude that has everything going for him, you know… They know you, you don’t know them. Why you arguing with them? Would you would you argue with somebody you don’t know for no reason? Would you risk your career and your wealth, all?”

The Las Vegas native understands the importance of a career and having gold wrapped around a fighter’s waist. So, for him, Haney’s actions were something he couldn’t make sense of. However, Romero is coming off a loss to Isaac Cruz, where he lost the WBA crown, and now gears for a win, inserting himself into the title conversation.

Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero gunning for a knockout

Romero will face Manuel Jaimes next on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga undercard on September 14. He has already specified his intention to win the fight splendidly. He said, “This fight is about making a statement and getting back in the win column. As always, I’m coming for the knockout.”
