Where is Matchroom Boxing headed? A 0-5 beat down earlier this year by Frank Warren‘s Queensberry Promotion and losses to Anthony Joshua and Dmitry Bivol have left the promotion’s future hanging in balance. Maybe the Matchroom Boxing curse is real after all. But the only fighter to give Eddie Hearn a spectacular win was Katie Taylor. But it seems instead of pursuing a trilogy with Amanda Serrano, the British promoter is pushing for “unethical and preferential treatment,” if Oscar De La Hoya is to be believed.

De La Hoya, 51, called shots at his English counterpart when he uploaded this week’s ‘Clap Back Thursday’. To him, Taylor vs. Serrano 3 was the most logical step next after their rematch on November 15. After all, it ended up shattering multiple records, and a controversial decision only added more traction to it.

But the Golden Boy Promotions lynchpin alleged that Matchroom Boxing’s social media handles sidelined Taylor, 38, and her historic win, instead pushing WBC featherweight champion Skye Nicolson after the fight. What’s more? De La Hoya took a dig at Hearn, 45, as he dug deep into the rumors of a romantic connection between the Australian boxer and Hearn, which has been doing the rounds for the past couple of years.

In the Instagram clip which was later deleted, De La Hoya said, “It’s no secret Eddie and Skye Nicolson have been linked romantically since 2022. Rumors have been flying throughout the boxing community about them for years, and as I investigate further, it’s becoming clear that there’s likely some unethical and preferential treatment happening here.”

Following this, the California native reminded fans of the time when the fans spotted Hearn and Nicolson outside a club in Miami. The Barcelona Olympic Gold medalist concluded that Matchroom Boxing’s head honcho lacked focus on his promotion.

According to him, Hearn is more concerned about setting Nicolson up with Serrano for a unification bout. Oscar De La Hoya continued, “Here you are in Miami with Skye, outside a club. You were focused immediately on setting up your rumored girlfriend to fight Amanda Serrano. You made it too obvious, my man. No wonder you are like 0-16 this year… You’re distracted as hell, Eddie.” Chiding Hearn for supposedly putting the alleged relationship above his promotion’s success, De La Hoya advised, “Get it together dude.”

Nicolson inked a deal with Matchroom in 2021 and had an explosive couple of years, where she clinched the WBC interim title and eventually won the full title. But the rumors first surfaced in December 2022, when the fans spotted them at several events and in public together. However, Hearn is happily married to Chloe Hearn and has two daughters. The London native likes to keep his personal life private, and therefore it’s hard to confirm these rumors.

Nicolson, for her part, has also kept her personal life details private from the public. She likes to flaunt her family pictures on her social media handles, but she has been tight-lipped about her dating life. One could assume that she puts her professional career above her personal life as she continues to chase unified glory in the featherweight division.
