Is Rick Glaser's 'bad guys' list a bold truth or just a publicity stunt?

It’s not just the boxers who are trading barbs on social media these days. Veteran boxing insider and matchmaker Rick Glaser has found himself in a public spat with Al Siesta, head of Siesta Boxing Promotions. The feud ignited when Glaser shared a list on X, claiming they were the ‘top 15 bad guys in boxing.

Unfortunately for Siesta, he landed at number 13 on Glaser’s list. Curious about who else made the cut? Glaser explained that a committee of five put the list together, though it wasn’t ranked in any particular order. Among those included were promoter and former boxer Dmitry Salita, matchmaker Roberto Diaz, and promoter Lou DiBella””just the tip of the iceberg.

Glaser’s list also featured his long-standing rival, PBC’s Al Haymon, along with notable names like lawyer Lupe Valencia, promoter Leon Margules, Queensberry Promotions’ Andy Ayling, Lee Baxter, Brendan Gibbons, John Beninati, Luis DeCubas Jr., Philippe Fondu, Al Siesta, Art Pelullo, and Pat Nelson.

In a parting shot, Glaser threw in former Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza for a not-so-honorable mention, writing, “Not so honorable mention goes to the applying everywhere for a job #StephenEspinoza.” This dig followed Paramount’s exit from boxing in late 2023, which left Espinoza, the former head of Showtime Sports, without a job.

Siesta quickly fired back, questioning whether he and Glaser had ever worked together, or even met, to justify his inclusion on the list. Siesta claimed he’d only heard of Glaser and had to Google him for more details. “How dare you mention my name [on] your ‘Schindler’s List’? Please apologize immediately and publicly,” Siesta demanded.

Upon seeing this, Glaser responded with a firm retort, standing by the list. “How dare me what? Your horrible reputation crosses continents & is world-renowned,” he wrote.

But Glaser didn’t stop there, offering Siesta some advice on how to avoid being included next year. “A little lesson for you, there’s truth in quantity, everyone can’t be wrong. There’s no reason for an apology,” Glaser wrote, adding that Siesta should clean up his act to avoid further embarrassment in 2025.

Now, there are talks about the possibility of an open debate between the two, leaving boxing fans wondering how this feud will unfold.

Since Glaser’s response, Siesta appears to have taken a different approach, inviting Glaser and his committee of five to participate in an open debate. “Mr. Glaser, let’s take this to an open debate. Let’s pick the biggest platform available. Bring your ‘magnificent five’ as well,” Siesta wrote. For Siesta, it’s now a matter of pride, and he’s determined not to let anyone, including Glaser, tarnish his reputation.

Naturally, Glaser wasn’t one to stay quiet. As expected, he swiftly responded, doubling down on his previous remarks. “You’ve done enough to tarnish your name. Your reputation is horrible, the only Boxing person that’s on your continent that has a worse reputation is Fondu. You’re one level up,” Glaser retorted.

It seems Rick Glaser is continuing his crusade against those he and his committee consider the ‘bad guys’ in boxing. Meanwhile, there’s no word yet on whether this list could land Glaser in legal trouble for defamation. What do you think about the list?
