In a recent press conference, tensions escalated between Jermall Charlo and Jose Benavidez Jr., shedding light on the resurfaced controversy between Charlo and Caleb Plant. Benavidez didn’t mince words, openly mocking Charlo for his alleged confrontations and suggesting that Charlo had been “slapped by everybody.”
Charlo, set to make his big boxing comeback is going up against boxer and Creed III alum Jose Benavidez Jr. Charlo, who was on a break for almost 2 and a half years citing personal and mental health problems, was suddenly seen earlier this year training with, none other than Roy Jones Jr. Since then fans and pundits have been waiting for the ‘Hitman’ to announce his return to the ring. Much to everyone’s delight, it is sooner, rather than later.

Caleb Plant justified slapping Jermall Charlo after Charlo allegedly berated him and pulled on his beard during a confrontation backstage at Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr‘s weigh-in, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Plant, the former 168-pound titlist, revealed in an Instagram Live post that he warned Charlo to stop. However, Charlo continued to touch his face, prompting Plant to resort to violence.
Furthermore, Plant dispelled rumors about his wife being involved in the altercation. Reportedly, he felt compelled to defend himself, especially in front of his peers. Subsequently, Plant dismissed any connection between his situation and the conflict between Charlo’s twin brother Jermell and Canelo Alvarez, clarifying that he acted in response to Charlo’s actions.
Now that that’s all in the past, this incident does lay the perfect groundwork for pre-game hype and an electric performance in the ring. Charlo taking time out to focus on his mental health is commendable. Understandably, fans and critics have been looking forward to seeing the bruiser back in the ring.
