It’s been five months since Devin Haney fought Ryan Garcia. The match may have entered the history pages for all the unfortunate reasons. While Garcia is under suspension for roughly a year, Haney too decided to take a break from boxing. His record remains intact, and his championship has now been put ‘under recess’. However, as time passed, gradually, the former undisputed champion started making public appearances. Many saw him at the Terence CrawfordIsrail Madrimov show. With that, talks of potential matchups also emerged.

One of the names that kept on emerging was that of Liam Paro. The Australian delivered one of the biggest upsets of the year after he defeated Subriel Matias by a unanimous decision. Thus, a unification fight with Haney made a lot of sense. However, based on several reports, the fate of the fight remains uncertain. So amidst these developments of claims and counterclaims, a message from ‘The Dream’ caught considerable attention.

Devin Haney: What’s become of them?

So it seems the root cause of the latest commotions had been a rather innocuous tweet from Devin Haney. He wondered the whereabouts of Sandor Martin. If fans may recall, soon after the Garcia fight, news emerged that Devin Haney would defend his title from number one contender Sandor Martin.

However, the fight failed to materialize on account of purse bid issues. So Haney wanted to know why anyone isn’t talking about Martin any more. Among the many responses that he received, one suggested that he could look into fighting Liam Paro. The two-division champion replied, “Paro don’t want none.

In his latest interview, Eddie Hearn suggested that Devin Haney could be expected to return by December for a no-sweat battle. “I think Devin should be coming back in at the end of the year in an easy fight like that was a tough fight against Ryan Garcia. Come back, you know, maybe a catchweight between 140 and 147,said the Matchroom honcho.

Clean up your act first.

Clearly, many fans weren’t too happy with Haney downplaying Liam Paro’s challenge. Let’s check what a few of them had to say.

This fan took up the latest news, which suggests that for his return, Devin Haney may first take on opponents much easier to deal with before lunging one to bigger challenges. “Bruv your fighting a tune-up Eddie said it already,” said this fan.

Then this fan slammed Haney for avoiding Paro. They pointed out how the champion reportedly had his eyes on a fat payday that eventually never came his way. The fan said, “YOU DUCKED THE FIGHT! Eddie already said it; you wanted more money. He is not paying you that.

Then this follower taunted Devin Haney by pulling in the Ryan Garcia fight. They suggested that perhaps Paro himself doesn’t want the fight because he is afraid of meeting a similar fate as Garcia’s. After scoring a knockdown, Haney may once again start protesting. This is what the fan said: “He doesn’t want to get banned from boxing because you’ll cry foul when he beats you, lol.

Like many, this user too held Haney responsible for not fighting either Shakur Stevenson, Sandor Martin, or, for that matter, Liam Paro now. The user felt that Haney was intentionally avoiding competition. They said, “You ducked and out priced yourself; you are pathetic, and you did the same thing with Shakur. You are quite literally a 🦆. Ducked Shakur Ducked Martin Ducked Paro 🫵🏽😂.”

Then this follower seems pretty confident that perhaps, like Garcia, a left hook from Paro might be enough to drop Devin Haney. They said, “All Paro needs is a left hook, and your an easy win.

Considering how the last few months have been for him, fans would definitely love to see Haney back in the ring.

But at the same time, they would expect him to engage opponents who match his skills and help him build a lasting legacy. Perhaps, as Hearn suggested, for a champion of his stature, a big fight should follow after a reasonable tune-up. However, the format shouldn’t extend further lest questions start popping up as it happens following his latest tweet.

Who is your opinion fits the bill to contest against Devin Haney next?
