Riyadh, October 28: The city prettied itself up, rolling out the red carpet for boxing legends who came down from different corners of the world. The occasion was a live vestibule where one generation passed on the flame to the next. Under Mike Tyson‘s tutelage, a fighter, hitherto a stranger to boxing rules, ruined a reigning Heavyweight boxing champion’s night. So how can the man who wrecked ‘Iron’ Mike’s last-ditch effort to secure the world titles lag?
Not sure whether he is happy or unhappy about it, but Lennox Lewis still carries the weight of being the last undisputed Heavyweight boxing champion. But, undoubtedly, the legend does it with elegance and elan. He was busy taking photos with other big names in boxing, talks, and discussions. However, ‘The Lion’ squeezed in some time for a young apprentice, who apparently boasts a legacy second to none.

Just around the time when Lewis was winning back crowds at the arena, another British boxer started dazzling the lower divisions. Prince Naseem Hamed became an enigma thanks to his antics, both inside and outside of the ring. However, unlike most boxers, his career barely lasted a decade. It’s been over twenty years since Hamed retired. However, he returned to the ring this year—not as a boxer, but as a father. He joined his son Aadam Hamed, who debuted on August 26 as one of the undercards of Oleksandr Usyk versus Daniel Dubois.
The youngster won the fight via technical knockout. As it goes for other disciplines, in boxing, the learning never stops. And what better way to understand the nuances of the sport than from someone who has been there and won countless accolades?
Aadam Hamed should be thanking his good fortune when he got the chance to chat with Lennox Lewis. As could be expected, the living legend had a few valuable pieces of advice for the talented young boxer. In the footage shared by @boxingkingmedia, ‘The Lion’ said, “Learn the fundamentals; make sure your defense is intact because you have to protect the family name.” Hamed couldn’t have agreed more with the advice. Lewis continued, “And always go out there positive, bro, positive. The more I prepare, the less I work.”

Now completely in sync with the great boxer’s pointers, Aadam Hamed thanked him. Clearly, what Lennox Lewis mentioned should be competent enough for many followers.

The thoughtful Lion
Apart from his solid chin, Lennox Lewis was always known for being a complete fighter. The West Ham, London-born boxer, a 1988 Olympics gold medalist, retired with a record of 41 wins against 2 reversals. He fought some of the greatest matches of the era, such as the two fights with Evander Holyfield and Hasim Rahman. The match with Mike Tyson is still counted among the finest title defenses of all time. Post-retirement, he settled in Miami, Florida, with his family. Outside of boxing, he reportedly nurtures a keen interest in chess.
