IBF bantamweight champion Ebanie Bridges made her first title defense against fellow Australian rival Shannon O’Connell. Despite emerging victorious in this match, Bridges would suffer a horrific injury that might keep her out of action for a while. The champ managed to secure a comfortable victory dispatching O’Connell in the eighth round.

However, she was visibly injured after the fight as she held an ice pack close to her hand. Now she has revealed that she would need surgery on her hand and also showed the fans the current status of her injury.

Ebanie Bridges shows off her swollen hand

The Blond Bomber took to Twitter and posted a picture of her hand, which was swollen beyond recognition. Moreover, she revealed that a lot of her training was done with her non-injured hand, as she could not risk pulling out of the fight.

She also described how the surgery will require taking her bone from her hip and fusing her joints. This was not all, as the fans were also horrified by the injury and came out to show the world champion their support.

One fan wished a speedy recovery for Bridges and wanted her to get back in the rig to beat someone else.

Another fan shared his experience of a similar injury. He claimed that he was a football player but never came close to getting as badly injured as Bridges. He also praised ‘The Blond Bomber’ for fighting through it.

One fan hilariously asked if Bridges’ piano career was now on hold because of this injury.

The fans were very much in support of Bridges, who has acquired a lot of fame not only through her boxing but her other ventures as well. However, she is the current bantamweight champion and will have to defend her belt once she is back in the mix. She could face fellow champion Dina Thorslund who has been pushing for a bout with her. Moreover, a return under Eddie Hearn and Matchroom boxing could also be a viable option for her.
