Terence Crawford vs  Errol Spence Jr. is a hard contest to predict. The two welterweight titans will face one another after much anticipation in less than two weeks. The bout is a spectacle for reasons more than one. Both boxers are young, undefeated, and champions of the division. Safe to say that the bout is between two top-notch boxers. And it is the curiosity behind who is best amongst the best that makes the fans interested in this bout.

However, Oscar De La Hoya finds it to be pretty easy to make his pick in this much-anticipated clash. According to the betting odds, the WBO welterweight champion is the favorite. But does De La Hoya find himself in agreement with the same? Or does he fancy that chances of Spence Jr in the biggest fight of his career? Let’s find out.

Terence Crawford or Errol Spence? Oscar De La Hoya makes his prediction known

De La Hoya has been vocal about this match-up for the longest time. Even prior to the bout being official, and despite the bout being considered competitive, the fighter-turned-promoter favored Crawford to win the fight with ease. After the bout was made official, he stood his ground and continued to fancy Crawford. But never has he comprehensively given the reason behind his prediction.

However, just a few days ahead of this bout, De La Hoya explained his stance. According to him, both combatants are highly adept but Crawford’s skill outshines the skills of Spence Jr.

ESPN Ringside on Twitter posted De La Hoya’s opinion on the fight, “You don’t have to be a genius to know who is the better boxer.”

He added, “I strongly feel Crawford and Spence are both great fighters. But in my humble opinion, Crawford has the better ability. He has the better arsenal inside the ring.” 

Moreover, earlier,  De La Hoya sent out a hard-hitting message  for Spence Jr.

Back in May of this year, Spence Jr. was frustrated with off-court politics that comes with being a high-profile boxer. Although one is not sure, it may have sparked due to the differences between him and his promoter/advisor: Al Haymon. In a tweet, he stated, “I’m starting to feel played .. ..”

The same caught the attention of the CEO of Golden Boy Productions who felt sorry for him. In response, he indirectly hinted at the fact that Spence Jr was under the wrong guidance that stopped him from securing a legendary status in boxing. He responded, “You could have been a real legend.”

It can be reasonably inferred that De La Hoya does not consider Spence to be a ” real legend.” However, Spence Jr, on July 29, has the opportunity to prove him wrong.
