“You Can’t Break Me”: Devin Haney echoes Deion Sanders’ confidence
In the high-stakes world of professional sports, athletes often seek inspiration beyond their own domain. For Devin Haney, boxing’s rising superstar, that muse came from the football field. Enter Deion Sanders. The former NFL and MLB phenom, revered for his prowess and flair both on and off the field, has long been known to speak his mind with unabashed candor.
Amidst the echoes of his negotiations with Regis Prograis, Haney gave his followers a taste of Sanders’ unmistakable voice. The clip started with a close-up of Sanders, confidence evident in his eyes. “Look at me,” he began, every word dripping with conviction. “What about me would make you think that I care about your opinion of me?”
Drawing a line in the sand, he continued, “Your opinion of me is not the opinion I have for myself. You ain’t make me, so you can’t break me. You didn’t build me so you can’t kill me. God established me, so there’s nothing you can to do me.”

Building up to a crescendo, Sanders declared, “I have been a difference maker, a game changer. I have been that guy. So what would change? Not a darn thing.” Addressing his vast audience, he added with a smirk, “I’m not even playing the game and you got an opinion of me. I love it but I don’t care.”
Finally, he shared a poignant message for the younger generation. “Youngsters, if you’re out there right now, do not give a darn about what opinion people have of you. As long as that opinion is not consistent with that of yourself. I’m not playing to make you feel good.”
The words, potent and resonating, left an indelible mark. Haney’s choice to highlight this clip offers a profound look into his current mindset and a steadfast approach to his career’s next chapter.
Eddie Hearn unveils fight details amid delays
In a recent interview, Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn shared insights about the anticipated Haney-Prograis match-up. The initial October 28th date has shifted due to awaiting basketball schedules. November now seems the most likely, with a slim possibility of extending to December.
Hearn mentioned potential locations being considered: San Francisco, Oakland, Vegas, Madison Square Garden, Washington, and Atlanta. Interestingly, while Prograis has already put pen to paper, Devin Haney hasn’t signed yet. Hearn quickly reassured fans that Haney is “ready to sign” and expressed optimism that the final date and venue would satisfy all, cementing the event as a late-year “mega fight.”
As he braces for the next phase in his career, one must wonder if this ethos will be his guiding light. What do you think? Will Haney’s adoption of Sanders’ fearless attitude propel him to even greater heights in the boxing world?
