A fight changes a person, and it might be true for Devin Haney. A fight with Ryan Garcia shattered him, from the PED saga to the decision to go on a break. It all happened after he lost the fight inside the ring. But some are yet to come to terms with why the WBC champion took a sabbatical when he could be mauling opponents in the ring. It also baffles ‘KingRy’, who has found another reason to mock him.
Haney, 25, recently found himself embroiled in controversy when his entourage attacked a fan at Orange County Fair. Soon, the visuals of the group throwing punches went viral, dragging Haney, at 31-0, into the mud. He even tried to land a shot on the man but missed. When Garcia, 26, appeared on the ‘Say Cheese’ podcast, he used it to launch another attack on his rival. He has previously taunted Haney for lack of power, and this incident gave him another opportunity to do the same.
Questioning ‘The Dream’s decision to take a break and how fans would have forgotten about him, Garcia said, “You got Devin Haney fighting at the OC Fair [Orange County Fair]. So when he returns to boxing, he’ll say, ‘Boxing missed me for three months.’ Nobody even knew you were gone. If your daddy ain’t speaking, nobody [cares] about you.”

The Victorville native then mocked Haney for missing his punch at the fan and wondered how the champion would land a punch against a professional fighter. He added, “Second, if all, how are you going to fight a random civilian at the OC Fair and didn’t get a knockout there? You can’t even knock out a civilian, let alone a professional fighter.”

The life post the Garcia fight has been tough for Haney. If Eddie Hearn is to be believed, the San Francisco native is still reeling from the effects of it.
Devin Haney hurt after the loss to Ryan Garcia
Hearn, 45, in a conversation with Fight Hub TV, lauded Haney for being mentally strong and being in control of his emotions. But the Matchroom Boxing lynchpin also admitted the former undisputed lightweight champion had been hurt on many levels. Explaining the reason, he declared, “I think the defeat hurt him on many levels. Because one, he probably never thought he’d get beat. Two, I think the drug test stuff was hard for him to take.”
